I took this video after landing at Doha International Airport (DOH) after a semi long 9 hour flight on this Qatar Airways A330-302 from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) Manila, Philippines. The airport shuttles took us to the transfer and immigration area. I soon caught a flight back to Kuwait to head back to work. All parties concerned in Phuket join hands to assist tourists who get delayed at Phuket International Airport. A large number of foreign tourists yesterday joined in long queues at Phuket International Airport to check in for their flights. There are airlines now flying direct from Phuket to overseas destinations like Singapore, Germanys Frankfurt, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Sweden and Australia, with more planes after they were released from Suwannabhum in Bangkok. The Phuket authority joins hands with the Tourism sectors and Tourism Authority of Thailand to assist tourists by establishing an information centre on the second floor of the airport terminal. Foreign passengers enquire about bookings and updates of the situation as some said most information from the media was in Thai. Tourist police also have their foreign volunteers to assist foreign tourists. They can speak English, French, German and Russian. Settapahan Buddhani, TAT Director of Phuket told Andaman News about the latest situation for passengers who cannot go to/from Bangkok accounting for around 400 people per day. He stated that affected tourists can stay in free accommodation under the condition that their costs do not exceed 2,000 Baht per day. For any excess, tourists must be responsible and pay themselves. Tourists can only change the place of accommodation that has been arranged by Thai Hotel Association or THA. For reimbursement, tourists are required to submit the following: Copy of their passport in which they have signed and certified as a true copy; Copy of their air ticket; & Folio and hotel bill: voice Settapahan, TAT Director Phuket Meanwhile the director of Phuket Land Transport Office Sompong Tohsawas said about 40 buses are departing Phuket to Bangkok every day and five buses are prepared to serve passengers from Phuket Airport to Bangkok and U-Thapao everyday. The fare is 800 baht per person. On the other hand, the Immigration Bureau have stated that for any tourist whose visa has expired since 26 November, till the Bangkok airports reopen, there will be no penalty or charge for overstay from the Immigration Bureau. However, tourists must show their original tickets to avoid being charged. Meanwhile, Martin Carpenter MBE, British Honorary Consul in Phuket, informed Andaman News that if any British Citizens in Phuket require assistance due to the airport closure in Bangkok, they should telephone the British Embassy Bangkok on this number: 02 3058333 or in case of emergency, please telephone him on this number: 089 874 9080 For more information regarding travel advisories, please refer to the British Embassy website http://ukinthailand.fco.gov.uk/en item--2--- Phuket Airport statistics still show a 5% increase for passengers this year, with increasing flights during the Bangkok closure. The Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, which manages Phuket International Airport, has informed Andaman News about their latest statistics for January to October 2008. They showed a total of 31,802 aircraft movements, down 3.25% from the same months in 2007, especially due to sharp drops in August in September of about 28 & 23% respectively due to airport blockage by PAD protestors. However the total numbers of arriving, departing and transit passengers in the first 10 months of the year, was 4,808,658 showing an increase of 4.72% compared to the same months in 2007, and despite drops of 14 & 21% in August and September; but the cumulative figures are still the highest ever numbers at Phuket. The total freight showed 15,138 tons in and out, a 2.78% increase. It remains to be seen what effect the latest Bangkok airport closures will have on Phukets figures, but several airlines, like Thai Airways, Silk Air, Air Asia, Firefly, Finnair & Qantas, are now increasing their flights here to evacuate stranded passengers or bring new passengers in. DEDICATIONS: This short video clip is primarily dedicated to my very best American friends Francis McWilliams of New York City, George & Mary Kielak of Las Vegas Nevada and Kenneth Hunt of Virginia Beach, Virginia USA, to my five (5) lovely children Joanna Krokos of London United Kingdom, Jack Cindy and Peter Krokos of Wynantskill, New York USA and to my youngest one Richard Victor Krokos of Chiang Mai Thailand. I would like to say thank you to my Thai partner and best friend Sunisa Kleebrang and her sweet daughter Tawanchai Srinawong. To all of you a BIG Thank You! Christopher A Krokos AMERICA: The United States is a multicultural nation, home to a wide variety of ethnic groups, traditions, and values. There is no "American" ethnicity; aside from the now small Native American and Native Hawaiian populations, nearly all Americans or their ancestors immigrated within the past five centuries. The culture held in common by most Americans is referred to as mainstream American culture, a Western culture largely derived from the traditions of Western European migrants, beginning with the early English and Dutch settlers. German, Irish, and Scottish cultures have also been very influential. Certain cultural attributes of Mandé and Wolof slaves from West Africa were adopted by the American mainstream; based more on the traditions of Central African Bantu slaves, a distinct African American culture developed that would also deeply affect the mainstream. Westward expansion integrated the Creoles and Cajuns of Louisiana and the Hispanics of the Southwest and brought close contact with the culture of Mexico. Large-scale immigration in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centurys from Southern and Eastern Europe introduced many new cultural elements. More recent immigration from Asia and especially Latin America has had broad impact. The resulting cultural mix may be described as a homogeneous melting pot, or as a pluralistic salad bowl in which immigrants and their descendants retain distinctive cultural characteristics. PEOPLE: "An American" is English, or Frenchman, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navajo, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as Native Americans an American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness. An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything... the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America. Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists... CHAN: The leaders and foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia met on the sidelines of an Asia-Europe summit in Beijing Friday. Both sides agreed to do everything possible to solve their border problem. STORY:
The prime ministers and foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia aim to resolve the long-standing border dispute that recently claimed the lives of one Thai and three Cambodian soldiers. [Hor Namhong, Cambodian Foreign Minister]:
"We should resort to all existing mechanism to solve the problem on the border. We should resend our purpose to avoid any more armed clashes in the future." The Thai foreign minister told reporters the two countries are not just neighbors but quote, "very good friends, indeed. [Sompong Amornvivat, Thai Foreign Minister]:
"We believe that, you know, the two sides have to really advise our troops, you know each side, our troops, not to have confrontation any longer." Meanwhile, senior military officials met in Siem Reap, the site of Cambodia's Angkor temple, to discuss the fighting and other border issues. Customs and immigration officials from the two sides also attended. Both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding. National passions over the hilltop Preah Vihear temple have been stirred for generations. The International Court of Justice awarded the temple to Cambodia in 1962, but failed to determine who owned the 1.8 square miles of scrub land next to the Hindu ruins.

Produced during a month in southern Thailand, "The Cost of Hope," tells the story of one immigrant family from Myanmar as they struggle to pay a devastating hospital bill. The story focuses on Ngern, a father of two who made the dangerous passage to Thailand more than a decade ago, hoping to create a better life for his family and escape Myanmar's crushing military government. After Ngern's son suffers from a crushing accident, however, the hospital bill threatens to ruin everything Ngern has built for his family. For the thousands of illegal immigrants living in semi-secrecy in Thailand, hardships like Ngern's are a daily reality, made easier only by the fact that life in Myanmar could be far more challenging. The report, along with other multimedia stories from Thailand, can be found on AndamanRising.org. Produced by Julie Turkewitz/University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill

Don Muang Airport, Tailandia. Hoje eh destinado aos voos domesticos. Fiz um video mixando com um clipe da famosa Jingreed Khao, artista de musica tipica tailandesa (meio trash hehe)+imagens que fiz. Don Muang Airport, Bangkok + Jingreed Khao music video. Location Located at longitude 100° 36' 30" and latitude 13° 54' 52", 9 feet above sea from September 28, 2006 at 3am all commercial flights in and out of Thailand, and also all domestic flights land and depart from Bangkok's new International Airport - Suvarnabhumi, Since then the airport hotel is the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel - end Notice - This review is valid only while Don Muang is still in full commercial operation - Bangkok Airport is split into three major terminals, two International (1 and 2) and the domestic terminal. Don Muang as it is called, may not be the most sophisticated airport in the world but it works, and is well spread out with handy electronic walk ways, throughout the airport. All three terminals are connected land side via air conditioned passage way, it would take roughly 20 minutes to walk from the domestic terminal to International terminal 1. Inside the airport there are food and beverage outlets, even pubs to help you pass the time. However most of these are before you pass through immigration. In between terminal 1 and 2 you will find on the second level, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, a Thai restaurant, and a couple of Pubs the best of which is the Hofbrauhaus. Once however you have passed through immigration, which can take a long time depending what time you actually are departing your choice is very limited. There is a Kentucky Fried Chicken, which can be found close to the security pass for gates 40-49, and there is also a small restaurant style cafeteria which is on the second level, upstairs. The choice is very limited and consists of mainly a few Thai dishes. There are also a few little cafe style cafeterias dotted around the airport, which serve delicacies such as hot dogs and a few sandwiches. Other than that, the only other place for food and beverage, would really be the lounges which you can only access, if a) your are travelling in the appropriate class (namely business or first), b) you are a "Gold" card member with that airlines frequent flyer programme, c) You belong to a club such as Priority or d) you pay. Depending what time your flight is leaving, passing through immigration can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 40 minutes or even longer. As I write this I am sat aboard Thai airways and the queue in immigration was frightening, a whole group of tourists seemed to descend upon the immigration queues, just as I arrived. There are ways to avoid these minor inconveniences, if you are travelling Thai, and you are in business or first class then the ladies and gentlemen in white coats (no jokes please !) will escort you through immigration without you even having to queue. These kind people can be found at the special check in areas, for first and business class Thai Airways, some other airlines do also offer this 'Fast Track' service so check with the airline when you check in . Once you have passed through immigration you can then either go to the lounge (if applicable as stated above), go shopping, or simply laze around. The lounges at Don Muang are generally very good, yet basic, with a lot of airlines having just finished their lounge renovations, most lounges at this airport are non smoking. One exception to this is Thai. Thai has three lounges for business class passengers and the one situated in the middle of the airport offers guests a smoking lounge on the upper floor, as does their newest lounge which offers great views of the airport. As for shopping at Don Muang, the airport consists of one Duty Free outlet, King Power Duty Free. All general Duty Free items are available at reasonable prices. There are other shops scattered around, however it generally tends to be cheaper to buy the same goods in downtown Bangkok, especially such as books etc. so do think about what you need to take back before leaving. The Domestic terminal is very simple, they have a very basic Thai airways business class lounge, and about three Burger Kings in the one terminal ! Book shops can be found in each of the terminals but as mentioned before the choice is limited and more often than not the same book may have been cheaper downtown. If you are arriving at Bangkok International Airport, you will be able to buy Duty Free before passing through customs. These shops are just after immigration and are located at either end of the baggage reclaim area. Cigarettes are a good buy with a packet of Dunhill International Red costing 490 Baht but alcohol tends to be a little expensive, a bottle of Balvenie 10 yo will cost you roughly 1,600 Baht. Wine is definitely expensive so if you enjoy a good claret then bring it in with you.
